NORFOLK, Va. - Norfolk State sophomore
Torie Cunningham was named MEAC Women's Co-Track Runner of the Week, while Spartan freshman
Jamarian Bates earned MEAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week, the conference announced on Thursday.
Cunningham won the 200 meters and placed second in the 60 last week at the Gene Anderson Invitational hosted by the University of North Carolina. She clocked a time of 25.38 seconds in the 200, and a PR of 7.64 in the 60. This is her first-ever MEAC weekly award. Cunningham shared the award with Melissa Caddle of Coppin State.
Bates, meanwhile, won the field athlete on the men's side for the second straight week and third time this season. He was the top collegiate finisher and placed second overall in the long jump at UNC. His best jump was 23 feet even. He also finished second in the triple jump with a season-best of 47 feet, 0.25 inch.
