Day 1 Results
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Freshman
Kiara Howell finished as the runner-up in the women's discus throw Thursday to get the 2013 MEAC Outdoor Championships off to a good start for the Spartan women's track and field team.
The Spartan women are tied for sixth place after the first day, with 11 total points. UMES leads with 21 and Hampton is second with 20.
Howell's best effort Thursday was 44.25 meters, or 145 feet, 2 inches. Her twin sister,
Navia Howell, was eighth in the same event with a top throw of 124-11.
NSU's other points Thursday came via freshman
Rachel Webb, who finished seventh in the 5,000 meters with a time of 18 minutes, 40.72 seconds.
Also Thursday, freshman
Vamonie Boddie ran a season-best time of 1:02.31 in the 400 meter hurdles. Her time was the fourt-fastest in the semifinal round, qualifying her for Saturday's final.
