Adnew Takes 1st to Lead NSU to Victory at UMES Cappy Anderson Invitational

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – Senior Damtew Adnew led the Norfolk State men's cross country team to their second team title of the season at the UMES Cappy Anderson Invitational on Saturday morning.

Adnew took the individual title in the 8K race with a time of 26:18.14. Three other Spartans finished in the top 10 to help NSU pace the five-team field. Freshman Sammy Kiptoo (27:06.79), senior Kipchirchir Kiptoo (27:27.65) and freshman David Kibet (27:53.68) placed third, fifth and eighth, respectively.

NSU also had a trio of runners to round out the top 30 finishes. Sophomore Joshua Carino (29:22.95) and redshirt freshmen Marquis Worsley (29:46.02) and William Brown Jr. (30:24.52) placed 21st, 22nd and 27th overall.

Closing out the race for the Spartans was sophomore Jerome Scurry Jr. (32:02.41), freshman Michael Evans (32:11.63) and sophomore Juliun May (32:46.69). Scurry Jr. placed 34th, Evans finished 37th and May placed 39th.

NSU finished with 38 points followed by Seton Hall (47), Howard (54), Maryland Eastern Shore (88) and Delaware State (133).

The Spartans are off next weekend. Their next meet is on Oct. 5 at the George Mason Invitational in Leesburg, Va.
