NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Freshman
Haileyesus Demsie ran a season-best 8,000-meter time of 26 minutes, 35.2 seconds to lead the Norfolk State men's cross country team to a second-place finish at the Christopher Newport Invitational on Saturday.
Demsie placed seventh overall, pacing the Spartans. Each of NSU's top five runners placed in the top 14 overall. Following Demsie, senior
Damtew Adnew was eighth (26:46.9) and sophomores
Desmond Fogg (27:11.4),
Sammy Kiptoo (27:13.9) and
David Kibet (27:54.3) were 11th, 12th and 14th, respectively.
NSU tallied 52 points as a team, second only to VCU's 38.
The Spartans are off until they compete in the NCAA Southeast Regional at the University of Louisville on Nov. 15.
