Malik Thomas, who competed for BU the last three seasons, had eight points against NSU last year.
About Boston UniversityThe Terriers opened their season with a 71-65 loss to Northeastern on Sunday as part of the Coaches vs. Cancer tripleheader at TD Garden in Boston. BU committed just eight turnovers and was actually tied with Northeastern with 3:11 left in the game before the Huskies jumped ahead for good. Cedric Hankerson had 15 points, six assists and five rebounds to lead the Terriers. Cheddi Mosely tallied 12 points and three steals, and John Papale posted 11 points, six assists and five rebounds. BU hit 8-of-19 (42.1 percent) from 3-point range but just 40.4 percent overall.
Last Time OutNSU shot 7-of-17 from 3-point range but just 5-of-34 (14.7 percent) from inside the arc in a 67-39 loss at No. 9 Virginia on Sunday night at John Paul Jones Arena.
Jeff Short was the lone bright spot for NSU, as he finished with a career-high 19 points on 6-of-15 shooting, including 4-of-7 from long range. No other Spartan player had more than five points.
Tough LossIn the loss to Virginia, NSU scored its fewest points and had its worst shooting percentage in three years since a 68-36 setback to Illinois State on Dec. 18, 2011. In that game, NSU connected on just 10-of-46 (21.7 percent). The Spartans shot 12-of-51 (23.5 percent) against UVa. and suffered their worst loss since a 100-72 defeat at the hands of Iona on Dec. 23, 2012.
The Spartans also connected on 5-of-28 (17.9 percent) and scored 17 points in the second half against the Cavaliers, the first time scoring less than 20 points and shooting less than 20 percent in a half since taking UVa. on March 19, 2013 (16 points, 5-of-27 for 18.5 percent in the second half then).
Big WinNSU's 81-43, 38-point margin of victory against Pfeiffer last Friday was the largest in the program's Division I era and the largest since a 115-65 win over Knoxville College on Jan. 29, 1996. It also marked the fewest points given up since defeating Randolph College 63-43 on Nov. 16, 2011. An opponent has not scored less than 43 against NSU since January of 1987. Also, the team's 26 3-point field goal attempts against Pfeiffer were also the most since taking 29 shots from long range at Iona on Dec. 23, 2012.
