NORFOLK, Va. – Sophomores
Dzmitry Zyhmantovich and
Andrea Macchiavello were named MEAC Players of the Week for men's and women's tennis, while freshman
Liza Gordeeva was chosen as the MEAC Rookie of the Week for women's tennis, the conference announced on Wednesday.
A native of Minsk, Belarus, Zyhmantovich has earned Player of the Week honors for the second week in a row. He improved to 11-2 in singles competition after posting wins against Chowan, Coppin State and Maryland Eastern Shore last week. Zyhmantovich has won 11 consecutive singles matches, which includes a 7-0 mark against MEAC opponents.
Macchiavello (Boca Raton, Fla.) posted wins in singles play against Chowan, Coppin State and UMES at the No. 2 position last week to improve to 8-6 on the season. She also teamed up with Gordeeva in the doubles competition, where they swept all three opponents. The duo is now 4-2 in doubles play.
Gordeeva (Minsk, Belarus) won all three of her single matches last week to improve to 9-4 overall. This is the second time that Gordeeva has been named the MEAC Rookie of the Week.
NSU returns to action on Thursday. The women's team will host South Alabama at 2 p.m. at the Everett Tennis Center on the campus of Virginia Wesleyan in Virginia Beach. The men's team will travel to Richmond, Va., to face VCU at the Thalhimer Tennis Center. Play begins at 2 p.m.
