D'Sean Brown tied for second place and jumped a collegiate personal-best in the high jump to lead the Norfolk State men's track team over the weekend at the Morgan State Legacy Meet.
Brown tied with two others for second place in the high jump with a top height of 6 feet, 6 inches. Only a post-collegiate athlete jumped better. The 6-6 height is also Brown's best since entering NSU nearly three years ago.
In other field events,
Clifton Thompson earned a top-10 finish of his own in the discus. His best effort was 144-6.
For the second straight week, sophomore
Steve Coles notched the Spartans' top performances on the track. One week after running a PR in both the 200 and 400 meters, he repeated the feat on Saturday. Coles was fourth in the 200 meters (21.41) and sixth in the 400 (47.72).
NSU's best effort in other running events came from redshirt freshman Michael Smith. He clocked a PR of 15.00 seconds in the prelims and was 12th in the finals.
Up next for the Spartans is the Penn Relays this Thursday through Saturday in Philadelphia, Pa.
