BALTIMORE, Md. – Norfolk State's 4x100 relay team posted a season-best time en route to a runner-up finish on Saturday at the Morgan State Legacy Meet.
The quartet of
Champagne Bell,
Rayiana Johnson,
Kaydianne McKenzie and
Brittney McCants lowered its best time this season for the second straight week, clocking a 46.87. It is the first sub-47.00 time for the NSU 4x100 relay this season and was good enough for second place behind Hampton (45.66).
Elsewhere on the track, sophomore
Rachel Webb posted a PR in the 5,000 meters, placing fifth in 18 minutes, 29.75 seconds. Teammate
Adugna Desalegn was eighth in the same event (18:35.30). In the sprints, McCants took sixth place in the 100 meters (11.94 seconds).
The Spartans also had four top-five finishes in the field events. Sophomore
Desmonae Gray was second in the long jump and first amont collegiate athletes with a top mark of 18 feet, 6 inches. Saturday was the first time Gray has competed in the long jump this season.
Sophomore
Kiara Howell continued her strong outdoor season with a season-best in the shot put. Her top throw of 47-3.5 was good enough for third place.
Spartan pole vaulters
Tiara Davis and
Te'Shaibrah Myles placed fourth and fifth, respectively, on Saturday. David cleared 9-10 and Myles 9-4.25.
Freshman
De'Andra Doyle also registered a PR on Saturday in her seventh-place finish in the discus. Her top throw was 135-7.
Up next for the Spartans is the Penn Relays this Thursday through Saturday in Philadelphia, Pa.
