Gordon to Participate in Nashville International Showcase

NORFOLK, Va. – Senior forward Rachel Gordon of the Norfolk State women's basketball team has been selected to participate in the 2014 Nashville International Showcase Event that takes place April 4-6 in Nashville, Tenn.

The combine will take place during the NCAA Women's Final Four and will offer female athletes the opportunity to showcase their basketball skills. During the camp, athletes will participate in individual workouts, testing, games and class sessions comprising of international coaches, players and agents. Overseas scouts, FIBA agents, clubs, general managers and WNBA staff have been invited.

A native of Woodbridge, Va., Gordon earned a spot on the All-MEAC first-team this year. Her first team selection marked the first time the Spartans have placed a player on the All-MEAC first team since the 2001-02 season. It also marked the second time an NSU player has earned all-conference honors twice in their career. Gordon was named to the All-MEAC second team last year.

Gordon was also a six-time MEAC Defensive Player of the Week selection this season. She is the all-time career leader for rebounds at NSU with 1,046 boards and she led the MEAC in rebounding this year, averaging 11.7 rebounds per game. Gordon posted a career high 26 rebounds on Nov. 26 against Texas-Pan American. It was the fifth-highest total by an NSU player and a Division I record as well.

On the season, Gordon tallied 14 double-doubles and averaged 11.2 points per game. She closed out her collegiate career with 977 points.

Along with a new location at the Harpeth Hall Gym, the 2014 International Showcase will be filmed and distributed to overseas teams, coaches and scouts. Evaluation grades will determine rosters.
