CNU Invitational Results

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Norfolk State men's cross country team turned in another strong performance Saturday, getting a number of season-best times en route to a second-place finish at the Christopher Newport Invitational.

William & Mary won the meet with 20 points, with NSU placing second with 47. It marked the second straight meet that the Spartans were runners-up. VCU (68) finished in third and Hampton (100) was fourth.

Each of the Spartans' six runners Saturday ran a season-best time, led by Haileyesus Demsie. The sophomore continued his streak of being the Spartans' top finisher in every meet this year. He ran a collegiate 8,000-meter best time of 26 minutes, 9 seconds to take fifth place overall.

Junior David Kibet also posted a collegiate PR, running a time of 26:43 to take eighth. In his second meet as a Spartan, freshman Tomas Fantaye finished ninth and crossed the finish line in 26:54, his top time of the year so far.

Junior Desmond Fogg and freshman Joseph Wanene were 12th and 13th, respectively, to round out NSU's top five. Fogg finished in 26:58 and Wanene was one second behind.

The Spartans are off next week before competing at the MEAC Cross Country Championship on Oct. 31 in Smyrna, Del.
