FLORENCE, S.C. – Norfolk State jumped ahead after winning the doubles points, but Bethune-Cookman won four of six singles matches, including a three-set contest, for a 4-3 win over the Spartan men's tennis team on Monday morning at the Florence Tennis Center.

NSU nearly knocked off the first-place Wildcats thanks to that early lead in the last matchup of the MEAC Southern Division Round-Up. The Spartans won both the No. 1 and 3 doubles matches by identical 8-4 scores.

Senior Domnik Pascal and freshman
Antonio Pejic defeated Alexander Chepik and Alvaro Barrera at the top spot. Seniors
Igor Braga and
Daniel Grauel won by the same margin against Gilbert Rotich and Diego Garavito at the third position.

Domnik and Pejic also won in singles, dropping just three games each over their two-set matches. Domnik downed Chepik by a 6-3, 6-0 score at the No. 1 spot, while Pejic defeated Barrera for the second time on the day, 6-2 and 6-1 at the third singles slot.

NSU also nearly won at the fourth singles position. Grauel fell in the first set against Greg Almedia, 6-1, before he won the second, 6-3. Almeida, though, rebounded to win the third set and the match, 6-3.

B-CU also won at the second, fifth and sixth places in the lineup. Walid Gtari defeated Braga 6-2, 6-4 at the No. 2 position, while Kevin Deligny downed freshman
Fatehdeep Singh, 6-2 and 6-3, at the No. 5 position. Garavito pulled out a 6-2, 6-0 victory over senior
Shaheed Mourillon-Swift at the sixth slot.

Deligny and Gtari also won at No. 2 doubles by an 8-1 score over Mourillon-Swift and Singh.

Bethune-Cookman improved to 10-8 overall and 3-0 in the MEAC. NSU dropped to 2-11 and 0-3 in conference play.
