Box Score NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State's comeback came up just short on Sunday as Siena defeated the Spartan softball team 7-4 to close out the three-game non-conference series at the NSU Softball Field.
 
Freshman designated player Megan Przeslawski belted a grand slam in the bottom of the fifth to close the gap to one. The Spartans left the bases loaded in the inning and then stranded two more runners in the bottom of the seventh as Siena finished up the series sweep of NSU (1-14).
 
Przeslawski had a pair of hits in three at bats and hit her first career homer, a bases-clearing shot to center field in the fifth. Freshman second baseman Seana Moriarty and sophomore shortstop Devon Bitler also had two hits on the day.
 
Siena (3-11) tallied a run in the top of the second and then made it 5-0 with four runs in the fifth. The Saints tallied three RBI hits in the inning, and a fourth came home an NSU's second error of the frame.
 
Junior right fielder Megan Dunning and Bitler hit infield singles to start the fifth, and one out later senior center fielder Alina Moriarty got plunked by the pitch to load the bases. Przeslawski then took the first pitch she saw and deposited it over the center field fence.
 
Two more singles and a walk loaded the bases once again, but relief pitcher Lauren Butts struck out the last batter of the inning to prevent any more damage.
 
Siena plated two more in the seventh on a Spartan throwing error and an RBI single. NSU put runners on second and third with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, but Butts again got a timely strikeout to earn the save.
 
NSU will begin conference play next weekend at home when the Spartans host Howard for a three-game series. Saturday's doubleheader will also be Military Appreciation Day.
