NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Norfolk State men's tennis team finished up its regular season conference schedule on Friday afternoon with a 6-1 victory over North Carolina A&T at the Centre Court Racquet Club.

The Spartans did not drop a single game in the last two doubles matches and also won the top five singles matchups to improve to 2-3 in the MEAC as well as 6-12 overall.

The Spartans moved into a tie for fourth place with North Carolina Central in the MEAC Southern Division standings. By virtue of their win over the Eagles in March, the Spartans own the tiebreaker for the final spot in the MEAC tournament.

Against the Aggies on Friday, NSU won No. 2 and 3 doubles by identical 8-0 scores for an early lead in the match. Seniors

Shaheed Mourillon-Swift defeated Nicholas Whitehead and Joshua Bailey at the second position, and senior
Daniel Grauel and freshman
Fatehdeep Singh earned the victory over Brett Caban and Kyle Scott at the third spot.

Antonio Pejic led Dreshaun Jarmon and John Wilson IV by a 5-4 score at No. 1 doubles before the match was called.

In singles, Braga knocked off Bailey at the No. 2 slot, and Singh took care of Keiston France at the fifth position. Both Spartan players won by identical 6-0, 6-0 scores. Grauel, meanwhile, earned a 6-3, 6-1 triumph over Caban at the fourth spot in the lineup.

After winning the first set, 6-2, Domnik had to work a little extra to win the second set, 7-5, over Jarmon at the No. 1 position. Pejic also had a close win against Wilson at the third slot, defeating his A&T opponent by a 7-6(5) score in the first set and 6-3 in the second.

The Aggies (0-17, 0-4 MEAC) earned their only point of the day when Scott defeated Mourillon-Swift at the sixth spot. Scott won the first set, 6-3, before Mourillon-Swift took the second, 6-2. Scott, though, won the third set tiebreaker by a 10-8 score for the victory.

The Spartans will face Chowan on Monday at 3 p.m. at the Everett Tennis Center at Virginia Wesleyan. The match will also serve as Senior Day for five players.
