NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State men's tennis team won its fifth straight match with a 6-1 victory over Chowan on Monday afternoon at the Everett Tennis Center at Virginia Wesleyan.
 
The Spartans won all three doubles matches and the top five singles contests on Senior Day to improve to 7-12 on the season.
 
The day began with NSU taking the doubles point. Freshman 
Antonio Pejic and 
Fatehdeep Singh earned an 8-2 win at the No. 1 spot over Farid Hajizada and Rafael Goncalves. Seniors 
Pascal Domnik and 
Daniel Grauel did slightly better, winning 8-1 over Tristan Martin and Danilo Galovic at the second spot.
 
Also at No. 3 singles, two more seniors, 
Igor Braga and 
Shaheed Mourillon-Swift, pulled out an 8-4 win over Ivan Doubograev and Sasha Kirsanov.
 
NSU won the top two singles positions by identical 6-3 and 6-0 scores. Domnik defeated Goncalves at the No. 1 spot, while Braga won by the same margin at the second slot in the lineup over Hajizada.
 
Pejic, meanwhile, won the first set by a 6-1 score over Doubograev and led 1-0 in the second before his Chowan opponent retired for the match at the third slot. At No. 4 singles, Grauel also won by a comfortable margin, 6-1 and 6-0, over Enrique Barge.
 
Singh had to work to defeat Martin at the fifth position. After winning the first set, 6-3, Singh won the second set, 7-6, after winning the tiebreaker by an 8-6 margin.
 
Chowan (9-10) got its only win of the match at No. 6 singles when Carlos Ramirez downed Mourillon-Swift, 8-6.
 
NSU will host Longwood on Saturday with a tentative start time of 4 p.m. Because of ongoing work on the NSU Tennis Complex, a location for the matchup with the Lancers will be announced at a later date.
