Spartans Finish 2-4 at Shortened Kutztown Invitational

READING, Pa. – The Norfolk State bowling team posted a 2-4 record on Friday during its only day of competition at the Kutztown Invitational held over the weekend at the Hiester Lanes.

The Spartans finished 16th out of 22 teams in terms of total pin fall after Friday's Baker action. The Saturday portion of the tournament was cancelled due to weather conditions, and NSU was one of five teams that left town before Sunday's traditional play that closed out the tournament.

During that first day of action, the No. 17 Spartans fell in the opening match to No. 7 Fairleigh Dickinson, 1,000-872. NSU rebounded to defeated host and No. 16 Kutztown, 1,025-862, the second time this season topping 1,000 in a Baker round.

The Spartans could not keep the momentum, dropping a heartbreaker to No. 22 Sacred Heart, 960-955, followed by a 1,023-859 loss to No. 23 Adelphi. After one more setback to No. 19 Saint Francis Brooklyn, 881-861, NSU closed out the day with a three-pin win over No. 24 Franklin Pierce, 867-864.

For the day, the Spartans averaged 181.3 per game.

Norfolk State will next compete in the Capital Classic hosted by Delaware State on Feb. 6-7.
