Day 1 Results (Thursday)LANDOVER, Md. – The Norfolk State women's track and field team is in seventh place after day two competition at the 2016 MEAC Indoor Championships Friday at the Prince George's Sports & Learning Complex.
The Spartans have 12 points after seven events. Hampton leads the women's competition with 60.33 points.
Senior
Kiara Howell was the highest finisher for the Spartans on Friday. Howell was the runner-up in the weight throw with a top toss of 53 feet, 9.25 inches. She will also compete in the shot put Saturday.
In other field events, sophomore
Brianna Hayes took fifth in the high jump (5-5.75), the highest finish of her career at a MEAC championship meet.
In Friday's running events, junior
Nickheila John ran a time of 58.01 seconds in the 400 meters to advance to Saturday's event final. Freshman
Taejah Robertson also earned a spot in the finals in her specialty, the 60-meter hurdles. Robertson clocked a time of 8.81 seconds, sixth-best in the semifinal round.
The final day of competition gets underway Saturday at 9:30 a.m. with field events (pole vault, shot put and triple jump). Running events begin at 1 p.m.
