Fields, Hayes Lead NSU Women in Final MEAC Indoor Tuneup

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. –
Janay Fields turned in strong performances in both of her sprints and Brianna Hayes won the high jump as the Spartan women's track and field team completed its final tuneup before the conference championship on Saturday at the Vince Brown Invitational hosted by Christopher Newport.

Fields posted a season-best time in the 60 meters, placing second in a time of 7.62 seconds. Fields then won the 200 meters in 25.58 seconds.

Hayes continued her consistent high jumping, again matching her season best height of 5 feet, 6 inches to win that event on Saturday.

In other field events, Tasia Baxter placed third and tied her season-best effort in the pole vault. Her top height was 10-6 on Saturday. Kiara Howell was runner-up in the weight throw (51-6.25) and took sixth in the shot put (39-8).

The Spartans cap their indoor season this week as they compete at the MEAC Indoor Championship this Thursday through Saturday in Landover, Md.
