NORFOLK, Va. – Richmond earned a third set win at the No. 1 spot in the lineup on the way to a 7-0 win over the Norfolk State men's tennis team on Sunday afternoon at the indoor Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.

The Spiders won both contested doubles matches and broke a five-match losing streak in the process. They improved to 7-10 while dropping NSU to 2-12.

Freshman
Benedikt Henning nearly pulled off the win for NSU at the top spot. He lost the first set by a 6-4 margin to Jacob Dunbar before winning the second set, 6-4. Dunbar came away with a 10-4 victory in the third set tiebreaker to keep the match a sweep.

Sophomore
Antonio Pejic nearly forced a third set as well against Caleb Troy at No. 3 singles. Pejic fell in the first set, 6-1, and narrowly lost the second set, 7-6, including 7-5 in the tiebreaker.

Canyon Teague came away with a 7-5 win in the first set at the second singles position to NSU freshman
Dan Dumitrascu before winning the second set, 6-2. Richmond also had slightly easier matches at the fourth and fifth spots. James Aronson defeated sophomore
Fatehdeep Singh, 6-3 and 6-0, at the fourth position, while Alex Hahn downed freshman
Flavian Fernandez at the No. 5 position, 6-1 and 6-2.

The Spiders also won the sixth singles slot and the third doubles position due to NSU's short-handed lineup. In the other doubles matches, Dunbar and Troy defeated Henning and Fernandez at the first spot, 6-2, while Teague and Aronson took care of Singh and Pejic by a 6-3 score at the No. 2 spot.

NSU will return to conference play on Friday when the Spartans host Coppin State for a 3 p.m. matchup at the NSU Tennis Complex.
