NORFOLK, Va. – Brianna Hayes and
Tasia Baxter took first-place finishes in their respective field events as the Norfolk State track and field program hosted the NSU Twilight Meet on Wednesday evening at Dick Price Stadium.
The seven-event evening meet marked the first and only home meet of the outdoor season for the Spartans. Hayes, a sophomore, won the high jump with a top clearance of 5 feet, 3.75 inches. Baxter, also a sophomore, took gold in the pole vault with a top height of 9 feet, 5.75 inches.
The meet also gave a chance for the Spartans' hurdlers and distance runners to get more races under their belt after missing a pair of meets earlier in the season due to poor weather. In the 100 meter hurdles,
Taejah Robertson finished second, first among collegiate athletes, in a time of 15.01 seconds. In the 400 meter hurdles,
Crystal Green was runner-up with a time of 1:05.11.
Rachel Webb, the Spartans' only entrant in the 10,000 meters, took third place in 36 minutes, 51.77 seconds.
The Spartans' full squad returns to the track for the Hampton Relays this Saturday in Hampton, Va.
