BALTIMORE, Md. – Senior
Kiara Howell posted victories in a pair of throwing events and freshman
Tyrika Lee claimed first place in the 200 meters for the NSU women's track and field team at the Morgan State Legacy Meet this weekend.
Howell won both the javelin and shot put, eclipsing her season-best marks in both events. Howell's best attempt in the javelin went 135 feet, 7 inches on Friday. On Saturday, Howell topped the shot put field with a mark of 44-10.25 to win gold in that event, as well. She also took second in the hammer (147-7).
Lee ran a season-best time of 24.27 seconds in the 200 meters to win the event, part of a 1-3-4 finish for NSU.
Janay Fields placed third in 24.63 seconds and
Nickheila John placed fourth in 24.68 – both of which are also seasonal bests.
Lee coupled a fifth-place finish in the 100m with her victory in the 200. In the shorter sprint, Lee also ran a season-best time of 11.98 seconds in the final.
Fellow freshman
Taejah Robertson broke her PR in the 100 meter hurdles twice on Saturday. Robertson won her heat of the 100m hurdles in 14.02 seconds, which bested her previous top time this season of 14.10. Then in the finals, Robertson was second among collegiate finishers and fourth overall in 13.79 seconds, another PR.
Robertson, Lee and Fields also ran legs on the Spartans' 4x100 meter relay team Saturday, which placed fourth in a time of 47.28 seconds. Senior
Jazmine Vaughan completed the 4x100 quartet.

Rachel Webb and sophomore
Tasia Baxter also posted top-five finishes for NSU on Saturday. Webb took third in the 3,000 meter steeplechase in 11 minutes, 39.21 seconds. Baxter placed fifth in the pole vault with a top height of 10-2.
The Spartans will send a contingent of athletes to complete in the Penn Relays this coming week.
