GREENSBORO, N.C. – Kiara Howell added a fourth-place finish in the shot put Friday to go with her runner-up discus finish on Thursday for the Spartan women's track and field team at the Irwin Belk Track on the campus of North Carolina A&T.

Howell's fourth-place finish added five points to NSU's total, which now stands at 18 points through eight completed events. The Spartans are in sixth place in the team competition. Florida A&M leads the way with 89 points.

Howell's points in the shot put were the only points NSU added to its score Friday, but the Spartans did record some strong showings in the preliminary heats. Freshman
Taejah Robertson advanced to Saturday's final in the 100 meter hurdles by clocking a time of 13.81 seconds in her heat on Friday. She placed second in her heat, posting the second-best time of her freshman season.

Junior
Nickheila John also advanced to a final on Saturday. John ran a season-best time in the 400 meters Friday, crossing the finish line in 56.04 seconds. That was good for second place in her heat and seventh overall in the prelims.

Freshman
Tyrika Lee ran well in the 100 meter dash, but fell short of advancing to the finals. She clocked a time of 11.90 seconds, her fastest of the season, to place 11th out the 22 runners in the prelims.

The competition wraps up Saturday at 9 a.m. with field events including the men's and women's pole vault, javelin and triple jump. The women's and men's 4x100m relays will begin the running finals at 1 p.m. Rounding out the day's events will be the men's and women's 4x400m relay races beginning at 4:35 p.m.
