MEAC Outdoor Final Results

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Tasia Baxter and Kiara Howell notched runner-up finishes in the pole vault and javelin throw, respectively, to highlight the final day of action for the NSU women's track and field team on Saturday at 2016 MEAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship at North Carolina A&T.

The Spartans placed eighth in the team standings with 44 points. Florida A&M defended its 2015 title, winning the meet with 164 points.

Howell capped her MEAC career with her second silver medal of the week. Howell's best throw in the javelin traveled 137 feet, 3 inches. Florida A&M's Jaymee Smith won the gold medal in the event. Howell was the runner-up in the discus on Thursday and took fourth place in the shot put on Friday to account for 21 of the Spartans' points at the meet.

Baxter cleared a height of 11 feet, 1.5 inches to finish second behind North Carolina A&T's Morgan Knight (11-5.25). Baxter's clearance marked a new personal record for the Spartan sophomore. Her previous best was 10-11.75, set at the University of Richmond in March.

Junior Nickheila John posted a season-best time of 55.68 seconds in her sixth-place finish in the 400 meters. Freshman Crystal Green also brought home a sixth-place finish, posting a 400 meter hurdles time of 1:04.58, while fellow freshman Taejah Robertson came in seventh in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.14 seconds.
