BALTIMORE, Md. – Junior
Brianna Hayes brought home first place in the high jump to highlight the efforts of the Norfolk State women's track and field team in a rain-shortened stay at the Morgan State Legacy Meet over the weekend.
It turned out to be an abbreviated meet for the Spartans, as heavy rains affecting Baltimore made for poor racing conditions on Saturday and NSU coaches opted to leave early. All told, only six NSU athletes were able to compete in their respective events.
Hayes cleared a season-best height of 5 feet, 4.25 inches to take first place in the high jump. That mark ranks as the fifth-best in the MEAC this season.Â
In the pole vault, junior
Shameeka Price-Cleare tied for second place with a height of 7 feet, 10.75 inches. In the javelin, freshman
Daiysa Burrell was fifth in her flight and 13th overall with a top throw of 85 feet, 3 inches.
On the track, freshman
Linei Woodson (800m), senior
Courtney Kearse (400 hurdles) and
Crystal Green (400 hurdles) all placed in the top 25 in their respective events.
The Spartans are back in action this Saturday at the Virginia Grand Prix in Charlottesville.
