BALTIMORE, Md. – Amy Begg pitched 13 innings of shutout ball for Morgan State on Saturday to lead the Bears to a sweep of the Norfolk State softball team, 9-0 and 4-0, in a MEAC doubleheader at Lois T. Murray Field.
Begg, the MEAC leader in wins and ERA, struck out six and gave up five hits in the first game, which ended in six innings after MSU run-ruled the Spartans. In game 2, Begg struck out seven in seven innings of work and allowed just four hits.
NSU has now been shut out each of its last three games. The Spartans fell to 2-6 in conference play and 9-15 overall.
Damali Young and Kate Vosper led the Morgan State offense in the top two spots in the lineup. Young, hitting leadoff, finished 4-for-6 with five runs and two RBI. Vosper batted 3-for-6 with four RBI and one run scored.

Megan Przeslawski to end the game on the eight-run rule. The Bears also did plenty of damage in the second inning, scoring four runs for a 5-0 lead. Giselle Alvarez hit a two-run triple to highlight the frame.
Morgan State (16-11 overall, 5-0 MEAC) scored single runs in the first, third and fourth innings for a 7-0 lead before Young's homer in the sixth.
In game 2, Przeslawski allowed eight hits and four earned runs in all six innings. Morgan State got a pair of RBI hits in the second and third innings for a 2-0 lead, and Vosper hit an RBI double in the fifth and later scored on an RBI groundout for the final 4-0 margin.
NSU totaled nine hits on the day. Senior
Kayla McNair was the only player with more than one hit, finishing 2-for-6.
The Spartans will try to salvage a game in the series when the two teams play game 3 on Sunday at noon.
