BALTIMORE, Md. – Amy Begg threw her third straight shutout over the Norfolk State softball team, leading Morgan State to a 6-0 victory over the Spartans on Sunday afternoon in a MEAC contest at Lois T. Murray Field.
Begg struck out six and allowed just three hits in all seven innings to improve her personal record to 15-5. MSU ran its overall mark to 17-11 and stayed perfect in conference play at 6-0.
NSU fell to 9-16 overall and 2-7 in the league.
Like both games on Saturday, Morgan State was again led by the top of its lineup on Sunday in the finale of the three-game series. Damali Young hit 2-for-4 in the leadoff spot with two runs and three RBI. Kate Vosper batted 4-for-4 with a run scored. Audrianna Alvarez, hitting in the third spot, batted 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.
The Bears plated a run in the first inning and two more in the third on one play, a single and error on a ball hit into left field. Young then hit a three-run home run in the fourth for the final scoring of the day.
Morgan State tagged NSU starter
Hunter Halford (6-8), who allowed 10 hits and six runs, five earned, with five strikeouts in four innings of work.
The Spartans, who have dropped eight of their last nine, will look to get back on track this week, first on Tuesday with a non-conference doubleheader at Towson beginning at 2 p.m. NSU will also host Howard next Friday and Saturday for its last home MEAC series of the year.
