LEXINGTON, Va. – Junior
Jacob Milton and freshman
Meshack Kipchirchir won individual events to highlight the Norfolk State men's track and field team's weekend at the VMI Keydet Invitational.
Milton won the high jump for the second meet in a row. One week after clearing 7 feet, 0.25 inch to win at Virginia Tech, Milton cleared 7-0.5 in a first-place finish at VMI on Saturday.
Kipchirchir, a transfer from Hofstra, picked up his first win of the indoor season on Friday in the 5,000 meters. He clocked a time of 15 minutes, 7.70 seconds. Kipcirchir also placed third on Saturday in the 3,000 in a season-best 8:38.48. NSU's two other newest distance runners also fared well over the weekend. Freshman
Evans Cheruiyot made his Spartan debut by placing seventh in the 3,000 (8:43.05) and Embry Riddle transfer
Lelei Too came in fifth in the 5,000 (15:33.40).
The Spartans' other win over the weekend came via the 4x400 meter relay team. The quartet of
Trequan Barnes,
Jaylen Banks,
Justin Pinder and
Kamil Jihad registered a time of 3:15.47 to win their race.
Pinder also ran well in his individual events. He won his heat in the 200 meters and was seventh in the 500 meters (season-best time of 1:05.26).
The Spartans are next in action this Friday and Saturday at the Penn State National.
