PEORIA, Ill. - It will be time to hit the road for the Norfolk State men's basketball team, and it starts with Bradley on Tuesday night at Carver Arena. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. local time, 7 p.m. EST, against the Braves as part of the Fort Myers Tip-Off Tournament.
This will begin a stretch in which NSU plays 10 of its next 11 games on the road through the end of non-conference play through the end of December.

Scouting Bradley
The Braves stand 2-1 on the season, earning wins over IUPUI (90-56) and most recently UIC (65-56) on Saturday. They fell to St. Joseph's to start the season after going 20-15 a year ago and advancing to the NCAA Tournament.
The defending Missouri Valley Conference tournament champs have four players averaging double figures in the early going. Elijah Childs tallies a double-double of 15.7 points and 10.7 rebounds. Darrell Brown is second on the team with 14.0 points with 7.0 assists. Ja'Shon Henry (12.0) and Nate Kennell (11.7) also reach double figures in scoring. The team also gets contributions from Danya Kingsby (9.7 points) and Koch Bar (9.3 points, 10.3 rebounds), as all but Henry have started all three games this year.
The Braves are averaging nearly 79 points per game and have been +7.7 on the glass so far this year. They have also posted a +7.3 turnover margin so far while holding teams to 39 percent shooting, 27 percent from deep.
Last Time Out
The Spartans poured it on against The Apprentice School last Thursday, earning a 113-54 win over the Builders at Joseph Echols Hall. NSU shot 59 percent from the floor and set the school record by hitting 20 3-pointers. Six players reached double figures in the scoring column.
The Spartans got a pair of 20-point performances in 25 points from
Joe Bryant Jr. and 21 from
Jermaine Bishop. They combined to shoot 17-of-23 from the field, 10-of-14 from deep.
Devante Carter posted a double-double of 16 points, 10 assists, seven steals and five rebounds.
Steven Whitley (14 points),
Kashaun Hicks (13 points, six rebounds) and
Daryl Anderson (10 points) also scored in double figures.
NSU piled up 26 assists and 16 steals, the latter because of both Carter and Bryant (six steals). They forced Apprentice School into 24 turnovers, outscoring them 38-6 in points off turnovers. They also posted large advantages in fastbreak points (28-2) and bench points (53-8).
Cleaning Out the Notebook
• NSU nailed 20 3-pointers against Apprentice School, breaking the previous best of 18 set last year against Maryland Eastern Shore. NSU also tied its Division I record with 26 assists
• Its 32 3-point attempts are tied for the third-most in a single game in D-I history, and its 3-point percentage of 62.5 is the fifth best mark over that time.
• Its 113 points scored against Apprentice are the second-most since moving to D-I in 1997, topped only by a 115-point performance in November of 2013. The 59-point margin of victory is the second-biggest in D-I history as well behind a 78-point win over Mid-Atlantic Christian in December of 2017.
• They recorded 16 steals, the most in a game January of 2009 (17).
• Since 2002-03, NSU has never had at least 28 fastbreak points in a game.
• NSU last played three of its first four games of the season at home in 2014-15.
• The Spartans have had three 30-point wins for the second year in a row.
• They recorded back-to-back 40-point wins for the first time in their Division I history following the 93-53 victory over Penn State Wilkes-Barre and the season-opening 100-59 win against Greensboro. The previous best was back-to-back 25-point wins last year.
• Wilkes-Barre also had 28 turnovers, the most by an NSU opponent since Morgan State had 29 on Jan. 21, 2013. The Spartans' 41 points off turnovers are the most since also posting 41 against Mid-Atlantic Christian two years ago. They have not had more than that since 2002-03.
• NSU had not started a season 2-0 since 1998-99.
• The team's 57 rebounds against Greensboro are tied for the fourth-most in D-I records.
• The Spartans reached the 100-point plateau for the third season in a row.
