NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State distance medley relay team of
Fridah Koech,
Crystal Green,
Ashah Koech and
Martha Bissah earned a runner-up finish on Friday during day two of the 2019 MEAC Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Prince George's Sports & Learning Complex.
Through two days and six events scored, the Spartan women are in fourth place in the team standings, with 18 points. Florida A&M leads with 62.5, Bethune-Cookman is second with 57 and North Carolina A&T is third with 30.
The medley relay clocked a time of 12 minutes, 8.01 seconds to notch the claim the silver medal and notch the highest finish of the meet so far for the NSU women.
NSU's other points were scored Friday by
Kellyann James, who captured seventh place in the pentathlon (3,168 points).
Several Spartan women qualified for Saturday's finals in their respective events with strong showings Friday. Senior
Taejah Robertson was the third-fastest qualifier in the 60-meter hurdles with a new personal record of 8.47 seconds.
Kiara Grant won her heat and was the second-fastest in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.38 seconds. Teammate Dajah Parker-Love clocked a new PR of 7.61 seconds to also earn a spot in Saturday's event final.
In the 400 meters,
Malika Pride ran a time of 57.13 seconds to advance through to Saturday.
Saturday's events begin at 9:30 a.m. FloTrack will broadcast the final day of action beginning at noon.
