CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The NSU women's 4x100 meter relay team ran for the first time this outdoor season over the weekend at the Charlotte Invitational and the Spartan quartet made it count, capturing first place.
The team of
Tyrika Lee,
DaJah Parker-Love,
Malika Pride and
Kiara Grant clocked a time of 45.46 seconds, more than a second and a half ahead of the runner-ups from Marshall. Their time also ranks as the third-fastest 4x100 time in the conference this spring.
Grant, Parker-Love,
Crystal Green and
Martha Bissah also fared well in the 4x400 relay, placing fourth in 3 minutes, 58.81 seconds.
Rain on both days made the going difficult for many of the competitors, but several Spartans still posted high finishes.
Fridah Koech won the 5,000 meters in 18:37.24 and
Caroline Samoei crossed the line in fifth place in 18:47.26. Lee was runner-up in the 200 meters (24.65) and Bissah was third in the invitational section of the 1,500 meters in 4:19.00.
Junior
Daiysa Burrell had the Spartans' biggest highlight in the field. She registered a personal-best discus throw of 140 feet, 8 inches, good for eighth at the meet and the third-best throw in the MEAC this outdoor season. Burrell also placed eighth in the javelin (95-10).
The Spartans are off next weekend.
