NEWPORT NEWS & CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Norfolk State men's track and field team had only a small contingent of athletes compete last weekend, but the ones who did combined for three first-place finishes.

Bobby Price (long jump), Jacob Milton (high jump) and Trequan Barnes (200 meters) all won their events at the CNU New Captains Classic. Price established a new PR with his top jump of 23 feet, 9.5 inches in his first meet of outdoor season. The jump also ranks Price third in the conference.

Milton cleared 7 feet, 0.5 inch to win the high jump at CNU. That height is a season-best for Milton and ranks atop the MEAC performance listing. Milton was also fourth in the javelin throw with a top distance of 140 feet, 1 inch.

Barnes clocked a time of 21.37 seconds to win the 200 meters. Fellow Spartan Keith Brown was second in 21.68.

NSU also sent a trio of long-distance runners to the Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville to compete in the 10,000 meters. Freshman Evans Cheruiyot led the way with a time of 30 minutes, 31.16 seconds, good for 13th place. Meshack Kipchirchir was close behind in 14th place with a time of 30:32.32, and Anteneh Girma placed 25th in 31:30.64.

The Spartans head back to Charlottesville for the U.Va. Grand Prix this Saturday.
