CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The NSU men's track team competed in its final tuneup meet prior to the MEAC Outdoor Championships on Saturday at the U.Va. Grand Prix.
Sophomore
Keith Brown's PR in the 100 meters led six top-five finishes for the Spartans. In his first 100-meter dash of the spring, Brown placed third in 10.39 seconds. That is good for the No. 5 time in the MEAC this outdoor season.
Justin Pinder (ninth, 21.62-PR) and Brown (10
th, 21.65) both placed in the top 10 in the 200 meters. NSU also put two finishers into the top 10 of the 400 meters.
Trequan Barnes was runner-up (47.07) and Pinder placed eighth (48.32).
Jaylen Banks and
Da'Jion Hilliard fared well in the hurdles. Banks clocked a PR in the 110 hurdles, taking third in 14.36 seconds. Hilliard also turned in a season-best time of 14.64 in a fourth-place finish. Hilliard doubled up in the 400 hurdles and crossed the line fifth in 54.80 seconds, also a PR.
Freshmen
Evans Cheruiyot and
Meshack Kipchirchir capped a strong day for the Spartans on the track by placing in the top 10 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Cheruiyot came in sixth (9:40.94) and Kipchirchir was ninth (9:50.11).
The Spartans now set their sights on the 2019 MEAC Outdoor Championships, which take place this Thursday through Saturday on the campus of North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, North Carolina.
