WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Tiara Simms and
Martha Bissah both recorded runner-up finishes in their respective events over the weekend for the NSU women's track at field team at the Colonial Relays hosted by the College of William & Mary.
Simms registered a personal record in the shot put, recording a top throw of 42 feet, 4 inches. That ranks the freshman sixth in the MEAC.
Bissah also posted a PR. She finished second in the 400 meters in a time of 55.72 seconds, the best of her career and also a top-five mark in the conference so far this season.
For the second straight weekend, NSU also fared well in the relays, as both the 4x200 and 4x400 teams registered top-10 finishes. The 4x400 team of Bissah,
Kiara Grant,
Tyrika Lee and
Malika Pride placed fifth in a season-best time of 3 minutes, 48.75 seconds (No. 3 in the MEAC). The 4x200 quartet of Grant, Lee, Pride and
Ashaila Bunch finished seventh in 1:42.32.
In other field events,
Kellyann James placed sixth in the long jump with a top leap of 17-1.5.
Daiysa Burrell notched a 10
th-place finish in the discus with a best throw of 130-08, the fifth-best throw in the MEAC this year.
The Spartans are back in action this Friday and Saturday at the Charlotte Invitational.
