NORFOLK, Va. - The Norfolk State women's basketball team (1-2) continues its string of three straight road games with a matchup at Robert Morris (0-0) this Saturday. Tip-off is at 1 p.m. at the UPMC Events Center and the game will be streamed on ESPN+. It will be the teams' second meeting in as many years.
Last Time Out
Liberty outscored NSU 42-16 in the middle two quarters to pull away for a 76-53 win over the Spartans on Tuesday in Lynchburg. The Flames shot 58 percent in the second half to earn their second straight win over NSU.
Jalynn Holmes scored 15 points and
Mangela Ngandjui had 10 and seven rebounds for NSU, which shot a season-low 24.6 percent from the floor.
Scouting Robert Morris
The Colonials will be playing their season opener this Saturday. They are coming off a 23-7 record in 2019-20 and their fourth straight NEC regular-season title. RMU, however, is making its debut in the Horizon League this year. The Colonials were picked to finish fifth in the Horizon League preseason poll and are led by Isabella Posset, who was a third-team All-NEC pick last year.
Series/Last Meeting vs. Robert Morris
Robert Morris leads the all-time series with NSU 2-0, including a 69-62 OT win at Echols Hall on Dec. 18 of last year. RMU rallied from a 13-point third-quarter deficit, hitting all seven of its 3-point attempts in the fourth quarter and overtime to overtake the Spartans. Honoka Ikematsu and Nneka Ezeigbo scored 15 points apiece for RMU, while
Chanette Hicks led all scorers with 23 for the Spartans. RMU and NSU first met on Dec. 4, 2005, with the Colonials winning 79-69.
J's for Jae
Jalynn Holmes is living up to her reputation as a scorer in her first three games as a Spartan. The Towson transfer, who sat out at NSU last season, has led the Spartans in scoring in each of their three games, with a career-high 23 vs. Salem. She is fifth in the MEAC so far, averaging 17.0 points per game. The junior is also averaging 6.3 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game. while shooting 43 percent from 3-point range.

Mangela Ngandjui provided a silver lining for the Spartans on Tuesday. After sitting out the first two games with injury, Ngandjui scored 10 points and had seven rebounds off the NSU bench in 17 minutes. The UNCG transfer had five offensive rebounds.
