Milton Golden Again as High Jump Streak Stays Intact

| By:
LANDOVER, Md. – Jacob Milton has competed in seven MEAC track and field championship meets. He has won the high jump title in all of them.

Milton, a senior, completed the career sweep of the MEAC indoor titles in that event Friday during the second day of the conference championship at the Prince George's Sports & Learning Complex. He won his fourth straight MEAC indoor gold by clearing a season-best 7 feet, 0.25 inch to top the field once again.

Thanks in part to Milton's victory, the Spartans sit in second place in the team standings entering Saturday's final day of competition. NSU has 52 points. Bethune-Cookman has 58.5 and defending champion North Carolina A&T has 48.

Friday began with two Spartan seniors scoring in the heptathlon. Jaylen Banks placed third with 4,330 points and classmate Kequan Henley was close behind in fourth, with 4,323 points.

Milton's win highlighted the afternoon portion of the meet. In the day's semifinal rounds, sophomore Kai Cole qualified for Saturday's final in the 60 meters with a time of 6.81 seconds. Trequan Barnes won his heat in the 400 meters (48.24) and Byron Carson advanced through his heat to the final in the 60-meter hurdles (8.30).

The evening was capped by the Spartans placing second in the distance medley relay. Lelei Too, Barnes, Kamil Jihad and Je'Shawn Walker posted a time of 10:23.79.

Saturday's action will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the women's pole vault. The first running event will be the women's mile at 12:30 p.m.

FloTrack will have live streaming of the afternoon action starting at 1 p.m.
