Bishop Named to NABC All-District, BOXTOROW HBCU All-America Teams

| By:
NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State senior guard Jermaine Bishop was honored by both the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and BOXTOROW when the organizations released a pair of men's basketball postseason honors on Monday.

Bishop was named to the NABC All-District 15 second team, and he also garnered a second-team spot on BOXTOROW's 12th annual HBCU Division I All-America team.

He becomes the ninth different NSU player to earn BOXTOROW honors, and the second in as many seasons after Nic Thomas earned a second-team nod last year. Bishop also becomes the second NABC All-District honoree in as many seasons after Derrik Jamerson Jr. was named to the second team last year.

Bishop was a first-team All-MEAC honoree in 2020, NSU's first first-team honoree since 2017. A native of Queens, New York, he ranked fourth in the MEAC in scoring at 15.6 points and led the league with 3.2 3-pointers per game. He was also second in free throw percentage (85.5), fifth in 3-point percentage (39.5), and seventh in minutes (33.4). In addition, he was second in conference games only in scoring at 18.5 points. Bishop tied the NSU school record for 3-pointers in a season with 98.

The NABC All-District 15 team consists of players from the MEAC and the NEC (Northeast Conference), with five players on the first team and five on the second team. Voting was done by member coaches of the NABC. Along with Bishop, fellow MEAC players Jibri Blount (North Carolina Central), Cletrell Pope (Bethune-Cookman) and Kameron Langley (North Carolina A&T) were also named to the NABC second team.

The BOXTOROW All-America teams honor players from Division I Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU). BOXTOROW has administered its All-America teams since 2009. This season, a total of eight players were named to the first team, and Bishop was one of five players named to the second team. Among MEAC brethren, Blount, Langley, Pope and Ronald Jackson of North Carolina A&T found spots on the first team, and Bishop and Charles Williams of Howard earned spots on the second team.

Jermaine Marrow of Hampton was named the BOXTOROW Player of the Year, while Will Jones of N.C. A&T and Brian Collins of Tennessee State were named the coaches of the year.

The Spartans went 16-15 overall this season, including 12-4 in the MEAC. They finished in a tie for second place in the league and were slated to compete as the No. 3 seed in the MEAC Tournament before it was cancelled due to the coronavirus.
