NORFOLK, Va. - Sophomore
Anthony Franklin enjoyed his best meet of his young NSU career, as the Indiana Tech transfer won both the 60 and 200-meter dash events on Monday at the Virginia Beach Invitational at the new Virginia Beach Sports Center.
Franklin clocked times of 6.83 in the 60 and a season-best 21.46 in the 200 as he pulled off the double less than an hour apart. Teammate
Bryan-Madison Ahouman was third in the 200 and fourth in the 60.
"Today was a breakthrough meet for Anthony," NSU Director of Track & Field
Kenneth Giles said. "He was a top sprinter at the NAIA level, but showed today he can compete against Power 5 competition. That's what he needs to do in order to sprint well in the MEAC."
Also notching top-five finishes on the track were
Joshua Sutton (fourth, 8.52) and
Antaeveon Payne (fifth, 8.55) in the 60-meter hurdles.
Standouts in the field included sophomore
Azad Williams, who was fifth in the shot put in a season-best effort of 50 feet, 2.5 inches. Freshman Rodric Cooper-Cox placed fourth in the long jump (22-9.25, season-best) and fifth in the triple jump (45-8.5). Freshmen
