Bungei, Pauline Find Spots Overseas This Season

| By:
NORFOLK, Va. – Former Norfolk State men's basketball players Preston Bungei and Aleek Pauline have continued their professional careers across the pond this season. The duo is currently competing in Denmark and Lithuania, respectively, giving NSU eight former players competing overseas this year.

Bungei landed with Randers Cimbria of the Denmark Basketball League (BasketLigaen), the highest professional league in the country. Randers is currently 13-4 and in second place in the Pro A division of BasketLigaen.

He played for two seasons with the Spartans, averaging 6.9 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. In Bungei's first season in 2015-16, he helped the Spartans finish in second in the MEAC at 12-4. He has spent time in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina following the conclusion of his NSU career in 2018.

Pauline competes with BC Silute of the 15-team National Basketball League (Nacionalinė Krepšinio Lyga, or NKL), the second-tier professional league in Lithuania. The team is currently seventh in the NKL standings at 13-11.

Since finishing his NSU career in 2011, the journeyman has played in England, Germany, France, Portugal, Holland, Iceland and Latvia. Pauline ranks as one of the longest tenured professional players in recent NSU history. He started all three of his seasons with the Spartans, averaging 7.5 points, 4.4 assists, 3.8 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game. He led the program to its first-ever appearance in the MEAC Tournament final in 2009.

Six other former Spartans have also played overseas this year, including Kyle O'Quinn (Turkey), Pendarvis Williams (Italy), Derrik Jamerson Jr. (Argentina), and the trio of Jermaine Bishop, Anell Alexis and Edward Seward (Germany).
