LYNCHBURG, Va. – Freshman
Camren Wynder-Hill recorded a season-best leap en route to a runner-up finish in the long jump to highlight the day for the Norfolk State men's track and field team at Liberty University's Brant Tolsma Invitational on Saturday.
Wynder-Hill, who also competed in the 60 meters and 60-meter hurdles, posted a season-best jump of 22 feet, 11.75 inches to narrowly miss a first-place finish in the long jump. He was the top collegiate finisher in the event.
"Camren performed well today, especially when you consider he was in multiple events that were back-to-back," NSU Director of Track & Field
Kenneth Giles said.
NSU's top performances on the track came via sophomore
Anthony Franklin and junior
Kamil Jihad. Franklin finished fourth in the 60 meters in 6.83 seconds. Jihad recorded a season-best time in the 800 meters, placing third in 1:55.21.
In other field events, freshman Rodric Cox-Cooper took fourth place in the long jump with a top effort of 22-4.5. Fellow freshmen
Joshua Sutton (sixth in the high jump),
Isaac Haywood (seventh in the long jump) and
Nile Walker (seventh in the triple jump) and sophomore
Azad Williams (eight in the shot put) also notched top-10 finishes.
The Spartans host the
Kenneth Giles NSU Invitational next Friday and Saturday at the new Virginia Beach Sports Center.
Said Giles: "This was a final tuneup for us before out final home meet of indoor season. It will be fireworks and NSU track and field at its finest."
