CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Norfolk State women registered four top-five finishes on the track in their first meet in nearly a month Saturday at the University of Virginia Grand Prix.
Malika Pride clocked a season-best time of 54.45 seconds in the 400 meters. She finished second at the meet and first among collegiate runners. Her time ranks as the third-fastest in the conference this year.
Running her first half-mile of the outdoor season, All-American
Martha Bissah finished fourth in 2:06.85. That's the top time in the conference this year.
Kiara Grant placed third in the 100 meters and
Indya Richards finished fourth in the 100 meter hurdles. Richards' time was 14.21 seconds, a new personal record.
Throwers
Tiara Simms and
Daiysa Burrell also performed well on Saturday. In the shot put, Simms notched her best throw of outdoor season, a mark of 41 feet, 3.75 inches, to finish in sixth. The throw is tied for the fourth-best in the conference this year. Burrell and Simms both registered PRs in the hammer. Burrell's top mark was 147-0, good for eighth place, and Simms threw 127-7, good for ninth.
The Spartans will next compete at the MEAC Outdoor Championships Thursday through Saturday on the campus of North Carolina A&T.
