NSU Women’s Tennis Adds 3-Star Recruit Cook

| By:
NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State women's tennis program announced today that three-star recruit Breana Cook will join the Spartans for the upcoming season.

A native of Long Beach, California, Cook is currently ranked three stars and the No. 289 overall player in the country by the Tennis Recruiting Network (TennisRecruiting.net).

"Breana is a highly-rated player from Southern California, and we are fortunate to have her joining the Spartan family," said Holmes. "She has plenty of athleticism, is very crafty, and has shown great hands around the net. Her game is very impressive. She is a very good player who will contribute immediately to our lineup."

Cook owns an 8.12 UTR rating and has ranked as high as No. 232 in the nation by Tennis Recruiting during her senior year at Connections Academy in 2021. She is currently ranked as the No. 48 player in the state of California. She finished with nine wins this year, including three against players rated either a three- or four-star recruit by Tennis Recruiting Network.

She won the U-16 divisions of both the fourth annual Match Tough Tennis Academy Winter Junior Open in January of 2019 and the Fabian Grassini Tennis Academy/City of Tustin Open Winter Classic in February of 2018. Cook was one of 13 players from Southern California who qualified for the 2020 ITA National Summer Championship at Texas A&M.

The Spartan women finished 8-6 overall this year and captured the MEAC Northern Division title at 3-0, their second-ever outright regular season title. They posted a winning record for the first time since 2013 and qualified for the MEAC Tournament semifinals for the first time since 2008. NSU lost three seniors from this year's team in All-MEAC players Paula Fortuno and Zoe Fraser in addition to Bruna Goncalves.
