NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State sophomore standout
Mercyline Kimaiyo was named Wednesday as the MEAC Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week, the league announced.
Kimaiyo posted a season-best and MEAC-leading 5K time of 18:05.2 on Saturday at the Panorama Farms Invitational hosted by the University of Virginia. That bettered her previous season best by nearly 40 seconds and was good for a 72nd-place finish out of nearly 200 runners.
This is Kimaiyo's second straight meet winning the conference's weekly award. She also was honored after her performance at the Paul Short Run on Sept. 30.
Kimaiyo and the Spartans are off this week before competing at the 2022 MEAC Championships on Oct. 29 in Smyrna, Delaware.
