NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State sophomore
Gidion Sigei parlayed his MEAC-leading 8K performance into MEAC Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors, which were announced by the conference office Wednesday.
Sigei ran the fastest 8K time for a Spartan since 2005 last weekend when he won his section of the Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Sigei clocked a time of 23 minutes, 51.1 seconds in taking individual honors at Paul Short.
Coming into last weekend, no MEAC runner had run faster than 27:35 for an 8K this year. In the Spartans' first 8K race of the year, NSU's top four finishers bettered that time. Sigei's teammate
Regan Kimtai, who PR'ed last weekend in 24:55.9, now has the second-best MEAC time of the season.
The Spartans are off this weekend before running in the Panorama Farms XC23 Invitational on Oct. 15.
