Spartans Fare Well at NCAA Cross Country Southeast Regional

| By:
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Norfolk State took three student-athletes to the NCAA Cross Country Southeast Regional, and all performed well against one of the stronger regional field in the country at Tom Sawyer Park.

On the men's side, MEAC champion Gidion Sigei capped one of the best individual seasons in NSU cross country history with a 40th-place finish out of 217 runners. Sigei covered the 10,000-meter course in 30 minutes, 38.7 seconds and finished ahead of numerous runners from the likes of the ACC, SEC, Sun Belt, American and CAA. He was just 15 places and 23 seconds shy of earning NCAA all-region honors.

On the women's side, Mercyline Kimaiyo was the Spartans' high finisher. Coming off her own MEAC title two weeks ago, the sophomore finished the 6K race in 21 minutes, 45 seconds, good for 71st place out of 228 athletes. Her teammate, MEAC runner-up Tynniesia Wilson, posted a time of 22:59 to place 142nd.

The Spartans will now turn their focus to the 2022-23 indoor track season, which gets underway next month.
