Long Leads Nine Spartans on All-MEAC Teams

| By:
NORFOLK, Va. – Nine Norfolk State players have earned postseason All-MEAC honors, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon. The recognitions are headlined by NSU linebacker Tyler Long's First Team All-MEAC selection.

Long was the lone first teamer from the Spartans, but three players earned second team honors – wide receiver Da'Quan Felton, linebacker Marquis Hall and defensive back R.J. Coles. Five Spartans rounded out the list with an All-MEAC Third Team nod – offensive linemen Vincent Byrd Jr. and Lamar Robinson, defensive linemen Anthony Blume and Amadeu Vital, and defensive back Joseph White.

Long leads the MEAC with 106 tackles this year, ranking 13th in all of FCS. His five sacks also lead the team, tying for second in the conference, and seven tackles for loss led the Spartans.  He ended the year with a dominant performance at South Carolina State, posting 13 tackles with a career-high 12 solo tackles, three tackles for loss, two sacks, and a forced fumble.

Felton also ended the season on a high note, tying Norfolk State's single-game record with three receiving touchdowns against South Carolina State. He found the end zone seven times this year, the second-best mark in the MEAC, while averaging 52.09 yards per game.

Hall's 75 tackles ranked second on the team behind Long, adding a team-best three quarterback hurries. He recorded two interceptions and forced a fumble this year, getting to the quarterback twice for a pair of sacks.

Coles followed behind Hall with 63 total tackles, opening the season with 12 against Marshall. He also added two tackles for loss, one sack one interception, one pass breakup, and one quarterback hurry.

Byrd and Robinson headlined an offensive line that paved the way for several powerful rushing performances by Norfolk State running backs. The Spartans recorded a season-high 254 rushing yards at St. Francis, one of three games of over 200 yards on the ground.

Blume racked up 30 tackles for the season, including 14 solo hits. He ranked just behind Long with 6.5 tackles for loss, getting to the quarterback for one sack and recovering a fumble.

Vital provided a balanced pressure alongside Blume, recording 30 tackles and 5.5 tackles for loss. He added two quarterback hurries, notching a sack against Howard.

White's 43 tackles ranked fourth on the team, racking up three tackles for loss as well. The redshirt junior picked off opposing quarterback's twice, once against Hampton and once against Howard, and tallied two pass breakups.
