Bryant Named MEAC Player of the Week For Third Time This Season

NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State junior guard Joe Bryant Jr. was named the MEAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week on Tuesday, the league announced.

This is the third time this season the Norfolk native has received the weekly conference award.

Bryant averaged 20 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists in the Spartans' two MEAC contests over the weekend. NSU went 1-1 in the contests.

Against South Carolina State on Saturday, Bryant went 8-11 from the field including 6-8 from beyond the arc. All 22 of his points against the Bulldogs came in the second half. He added four boards and a steal at SCSU.

In a late night game on ESPNU against North Carolina Central, the senior put up 18 points on 6-12 shooting while adding six rebounds and adding in three assists and a steal.

In Bryant's 20 games this season, he leads the MEAC in both points (332) and points per game (16.6). His free-throws percentage (93.3) ranks atop the MEAC while ranking him fourth in all of Division I.

The Spartans currently lead the MEAC with a 6-1 conference record and are 15-5 overall. NSU returns to the court on Saturday, February 12 when it hosts Maryland-Eastern Shore at 6 p.m. inside Echols Hall.
