Norfolk, Va. – Camille Downs has made a pattern of earning weekly honors, but this time she topped her own previous milestones, earning two awards in a single week. Downs was named MEAC Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
Â
The recognition comes after two dominant performances by the senior guard in wins against South Carolina State and North Carolina Central. Across the two games, Downs averaged 18.5 points, 11.0 rebounds, 7.5 steals, and 3.5 assists per game.
Â
Downs came up one steal short of a triple-double on Saturday, finishing with 15 points, 12 rebounds, and nine steals. She followed it up with another double-double on Monday where she scored 22 points, grabbed ten rebounds, and swiped six steals.
Â
Downs becomes the first women's basketball player this season to win both MEAC Player of the Week and MEAC Defensive Player of the Week in the same week. The awards marked the sixth and seventh time in the 16-week season Downs has received MEAC honors. She won POTW in Weeks 6, 9, and 16. She was DPOTW in Weeks 5, 11, 13, and 16.
