NORFOLK, Va. – The NSU track and field program will host the two-day Norfolk State Invitational Friday and Saturday at William "Dick" Price Stadium. The meet is free to the public.
Track and field teams from 14 colleges and universities, including the Spartan men and women, are scheduled to compete. This marks NSU's first home track meet since 2016 and first since the installation last summer of the new BSS 2000 racing surface at Dick Price Stadium, the same surface as top collegiate regional and national sites such as the University of North Florida and University of Texas.
NSU will also be the site for the 2022 MEAC Outdoor Championships next month.
Friday's action starts at 3 p.m. with the men's decathlon. Saturday's running events start at 9 a.m. and field events at 10 a.m. NSU's track and field seniors will be recognized at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
For the Spartans, this weekend marks the third meet of outdoor season. The Spartan men already rank 1-2 in the MEAC in the 200 meters (
Kai Cole,
Anthony Franklin), 1,500 (
Regan Kimtai), 5,000 meters (
Meshack Kipchirchir) and 4x100 relay. In the field, the Spartans have the top two ranked athletes in the triple jump in
Isaac Haywood and
Rodric Cox-Cooper II.
The NSU women boast the top ranked javelin thrower in
Leslie Young and high jumper in
Tynniesia Wilson. Sprinter
Malika Pride ranks in the top five in both the 200 and 400 meters and NSU boasts three of the top six 100m hurdlers in
Indya Richards,
Alyssa Thompson-Rowe and
Zion Smith.
