Cole, Haywood Shine as NSU Men Open Outdoor Season at Colonial Relays

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Kai Cole and Isaac Haywood picked up where they left off during indoor season, notching impressive wins in their respective events as the Norfolk State men's track and field team opened outdoor season over the weekend at the Colonial Relays.

Cole, fresh off a 60-200m indoor double at the indoor meet, opened outdoor season by winning the 200 meters in 21.01 seconds. Haywood, who won silver in the triple jump at the conference indoor meet, started his outdoor season with a bang, setting a PR in the event with a winning jump of 50 feet, 6.25 inches.

Other wins for the Spartans over the weekend came via Antaeveon Payne in the 100 hurdles and the 4x400 relay team. Payne clocked a time of 15.16 seconds to win the hurdles. The mile relay team of Jordan Williams, Dazon Harrison, Cole and Savien Hayes posted a winning time of 3:13.68.

In other events, Harrison took third in the 400 (48.30) and Anthony Franklin also took third in the 200 in 21.36 seconds. Hayes took sixth in the 100 (10.82) and eighth in the 200 (21.66).

NSU's top field finish besides Haywood was Joshua Peterson's third-place finish in the long jump. His top effort was 23 feet, 0.75 inches.

The Spartans are back in action this weekend at the Duke Invitational in Durham.
