VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Gidion Sigei and
Isaac Haywood both picked up first place finishes as the Spartans completed their final meet prior to the MEAC Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Sigei won the 3000-meter with a season-best time of 8:28.50, before Haywood shined in the triple jump with a career best mark of 50 feet, 6.25 inches.

The Spartans dominted the 3000 meters, as Sigei's teammate
Brian Rotich crossed the finish line next with a season-best time of 8:36.92.

Sigei excelled in the mile as well, completing the event in 4:18.48.
Â
Regan Kimtai completed the Spartan distance runners' strong showings, taking second place in the 800-meter with a season-best 1:53.67.

The Spartans 4x400-meter relay team of
Knasir Alston, Jahquan Kristopher,
Kai Cole, and
Dazon Harrison took second with a time of 3:17.58.

Cole enjoyed another successful day on the track individually as well, nabbing third in the 60 meters (6.77) and fourth in the 200 meters (21.73).
Anthony Franklin followed right behind Cole in the 60 meters, finishing a one-hundredth of a second behind his teammate (6.78).

Haywood complemented his triple jump victory with top-ten finishes in the high jump (seventh) and long jump (10th) as well. Rodric Cox-Cooper posted a season-best 23 feet, 2.5 inches in the long jump to lead the Spartans at third, while
Jonathan Richardson took 6
th with a mark of 22-6.25.

Joshua Sutton took fourth in the high jump, clearing a height of six feet, 4.75 inches. Kalon Jeffrey also secured fourth in the pole vault, clearing 13 feet, 1.5 inches.

Competing in the heptathlon for the first time in his collegiate career,
Sadiq Nurse earned a sixth-place finish with 3,709 points.

Norfolk State had two top-ten finishers in the 60-meter hurdles, led by
Antaeveon Payne in seventh (8.33) and
Dwight Henry in eighth (8.46).

The Spartans will return to the same location next week for the MEAC Indoor Track and Field Championships, taking place from Sunday, Feb. 19 to Tuesday, Feb. 21. The Spartans are the reigning conference champions, looking to defend their title at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.
