Deja Francis was named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Women's Basketball Team, as announced by the organization on Wednesday.

The honor recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom.

"We are incredibly proud of all her hard work, not just on the basketball court, but also in the classroom," Norfolk State head women's basketball coach
Larry Vickers said. "Deja is an incredible student of the game, and she does an outstanding job of balancing the role of being a student-athlete."

Francis, a media and communication/media management major, leads the Spartans offensively, averaging 11.7 points, along with 3.6 assists, 3.4 rebounds and 1.9 steals. She has led the team in scoring in 11 of her 24 games played, including posting a season-high of 21 points against Virginia-Lynchburg and Chicago State. In addition, she dished out a team-high 10 assists against VUL.

The Queens, N.Y. native, who has a 3.6 cumulative grade-point average, ranks second in the conference in assists, third in assist/turnover ratio and is fifth in steals.
